H. Dierckx receiving the 2024 LUMC Fellowship
Attending CINC and Cardiac Physiome Conferences
In the week of 27th of February, HeartKOR member Marie Cloet attended the SIAM UQ conference in Triest.
Our team member, Desmond Kabus, has published his recent work on cardiac
electrophysiology modeling in the paper "Fast creation of data-driven
low-order predictive cardiac tissue excitation models from recorded activation
patterns".
This year, we were again allowed to receive an auditorium full of fifth and
sixth years for a Junior College. They were introduced to the mathematical side
of the human heart and even discovered a link with particle physics in the life
sciences. Hopefully they were inspired to choose a voice field of study and we
will see them again next year at KULAK!
We were pleased to have Dr. Dylan Vermoortele at Kulak today to talk about
the research he conducted during his PhD.
Get to know Marie Cloet's first scientific paper with co-authors Louise Arno,
Desmond Kabus, Joeri Van der Veken, Alexander Panfilov and Hans Dierckx.
former Master thesis student
In a recent paper, Prof. H. Dierckx and collaborators present a modeling study
that shows how optogenetics can help to end turbulent cardiac activity. This is
a promising pathway to cure cardiac arrhythmia, since this recently presented
technique is a low-energetic way of defibrillating and thus causes less damage
for the patient.
The latest paper of our PhD researcher Lore Leenknegt offers new results on
the influence of several tissue and electrode parameters on the shape of
the EGM.
